Eindhoven Airport strikes agreement with community on monitoring Noise as part of 15% increase in passenger movements.
Amsterdam --- Lochard BV, the European division of Lochard - the world's leading supplier of Airport Noise Monitoring equipment and services, today announced it will supply and install 10 Noise Monitoring Terminals (NMT's) to Eindhoven Airport in the Netherlands.
The installation of the units is part of the airport's balanced approach designed to meet an unprecedented 15% increase in passenger traffic, whilst addressing local residents concerns for noise emissions from more aircrafts using the facility.
Lochard's Environment Monitoring Units (EMU's) will be used to monitor noise and potentially other environmental emissions surrounding the airport. In 2003, 423,000 passengers travelled through the airport, with that number expected to grow again in the near future. The rise in numbers is largely due to the stable of low cost carriers preferring to service travellers from regional airports. Ryanair, now offers 3 daily flights from this joint civil/military airport.
As part of an agreement struck with local residents, Lochard will supply 9 permanently fixed acoustics terminals and 1 mobile unit, recording aircraft noise emissions 24 hours per day. Data collated will then be used for residents complaints verification and if necessary, violations investigations.
'We are proud to have a unique relationship with our neighbours that enables us to maintain harmony with the environment as well as continue to grow commercially. Based on that agreement, the extension of the current flight track system of Lochard with 10 new noise monitoring terminals will enable us to implement an even more effective community program' said Dr. B. de Boer, CEO of Eindhoven Airport.
This agreement, struck after negotiations with neighbours and other parties, details noise tolerances the airport must adhere to and implement for the next 12 years. More information on the airport and the community groups is available at http://www.eindhovenairport.nl/EA_home/ and http://www.b-o-w.nl/ .
Dr Gertjan de Waard, Vice President, Lochard B.V. added: "The extension of our track based system at Eindhoven with this significant number of Environment Monitoring Terminals (EMU's), is a confirmation of Lochard's trusted experience and expertise with both Eindhoven as well as managing environmental issues typical to shared military and civil operated airports".
The installation is to be completed by June 2nd , 2004 and will include a 3 year support and maintenance agreement.
Lochard is experiencing a surge in demand for its products and services as both major and regional airports around the world increasingly appreciate the need for community consultation when addressing commercial operations growth. 'Environmental Capacity' is the variable typically used to measure community tolerance. Environmental Capacity is the community's tolerance less the environmental impact of any increased noise stemming from a rise in operational activity of the airport. |
