Leeds, UK --- BAA has welcomed the positive community response to the launch of WebTrak at the 3 major London airports; Heathrow, Gatwick and Stansted. The launch of WebTrak is considered an important development within the airports’ noise communications strategy, and access to the application is prominently displayed on each of the BAA websites. Within two weeks of launch, www.baa.com/noise was included in the list of "101 really useful websites" from the UK’s Independent Newspaper. WebTrak is a flight track replay facility accessible via a standard web browser on any computer with an internet link. People can click to see where aircraft fly relative to their home or other locations. The system also includes information on the type of aircraft, speed and height. Information is delayed 24 hours for security reasons. The local Heathrow press have commented that "The project may mark the first instance where something from BAA has been welcomed by campaigners..."(--Richmond and Twickenham Times). HACAN Clear Skies, a well known anti-airport expansion action group in West London, hailed WebTrak as "a dramatic new system that will bring transparency to what is going on in the skies over London and the Home Counties"Brendan Creavin, Environmental Policy Manager, BAA Limited, said: "WebTrak is another positive development in the open way in which we work with local communities to share as much information as possible about our airport’s operations. We were very pleased to add WebTrak to our three noise websites in order to complement the complaint handling and information service already provided by our airports to their local communities."Phil Stollery, Vice President of Lochard in Europe, said: "We are delighted that WebTrak has been so well received. It was developed specifically with the community in mind and helps to improve the community’s understanding of aircraft operations. They can also lodge complaints directly from the Website into ANOMS (Airport Noise and Operations Monitoring System) for processing by the complaint handling staff."WebTrak is a useful tool in which airports can demonstrate transparency of noise information. It’s an easy add-on to any of Lochard’s 135 systems worldwide, and can also be used standalone or with other noise and track monitoring systems. |
